Hello, friend! Today, we’ve got a very exciting topic ahead of us. We’re taking a deep dive into Scrappy Survivors precon, one of the four Fallout Commander decks. You’ll be able to find decklists, spoilers, as well as a full Scrappy Survivors Upgrade Guide.
Table of Contents
Auras & Equipment
This deck takes together two popular Magic subtypes Auras and Equipment and mashes them together into a fun theme. While this theme was used before, it’s going to be exciting to see how it plays out combined with the Fallout theme.
As far as the flavor goes, these theme is a perfect fit. The various weapons are represented by Equipment, and the numerous character modifications can be displayed as Auras. Pretty clean overlap of both MTG and Fallout mechanics.
Main Commander: Dogmeat, Ever Loyal

The main commander is your loyal sidekick, Dogmeat. Its card is pretty fun, as this dog will dig for an Aura and Equipment in your graveyard. It might even found one that you didn’t know was there before. The card advantage is a really neat option.
But wait, there’s more card advantage. When your equipped or enchanted creature attacks (doesn’t even need to deal damage), you get Junk tokens. Hurray! Wait, what are those?

These are predefined tokens, similar to Clues. You can sacrifice this artifact in order to exile the top card of your library. You can play it that turn. So, this is yet another form of card advantage.
Of course, if you’re an experienced player, your mind immediately jumped to other potential synergies with artifacts. There are quite a lot of them, such as affinity, improvise, and many more.
All in all, Dogmeat looks like a very fun and exciting commander, and I can’t wait to start playing with it.
Secondary Commander: Preston Garvey, Minuteman

Another settlement needs your help. Although, with Preston’s card, you’re essentially benefiting from the Settlement Aura. It allows the enchanted land to be tapped for any color of mana. That’s certainly useful in a 3-color deck. (Even though by the time you cast Preston, your mana should already be fairly good.)
However, there’s more to it. Whenever Preston attacks, you’ll be able to untap each enchanted permanent you control. Mostly that will be lands and creatures, both of which can be useful. Getting additional mana or blockers is certainly a great upside.
Preston is a fairly unique card, and allows you to build a fun deck around it. Even as the part of Scrappy Survivors deck, it’ll play well with all the Auras.

Do you want to improve this deck? In the next few sections, I’ll provide you with some great ideas on how to do just that.
Top 3 Additions
We’re starting with just 3 cards, that will do a lot of work, and aren’t too pricey.
Kellan, the Fae-Blooded

The adventure part of this card is very strong in a deck that’s build around Auras and Equipment. Two mana is not too heavy price to pay for a perfect card you need. Furthermore, you also get to play Kellan afterward. It’s a perfect card to put multiple Auras and Equipment onto. It’ll certainly play nicely in this shell.
Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh

Here’s another card that wears various enhancements quite nicely, thanks to its many abilities. Zero power isn’t ideal, but that can quickly be buffed. What is exciting is its mana cost, which is also zero.
You’ll be able to play this from any Junk token, no matter the amount of leftover mana.
Danitha, New Benalia’s Light

Here’s another creature with a great lineup of keywords. This makes it for a perfect target for your Auras and Equipment. Vigilance makes sure you can make safe attacks without leaving yourself exposed, trample pushes damage through, and lifelink keeps you alive longer. What’s not to like?
On top of that, you can play one Aura or Equipment during your turn from your graveyard. Nice synergy with the milling from your main commander.
Further Upgrades
Okay, that was it for the top 3 cards. Of course, the selection is pretty subjective, and there are plenty of other cards you could add to the deck to make it better and more fun. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Equipment & Auras

I didn’t include any Equipment or Auras in my top three choices. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any good ones missing. For example, Hammer of Nazahn is a real powerhouse and does a ton of work for four mana. (Perhaps I should’ve just moved it among the Top 3?)
When it comes into play, you get to attach it for free, it also provides +2 power, but even importantly – indestructibility. As if that wasn’t good enough, you also get to equip all of your future Equipment for free when you play them. That’s an excellent card for your Scrappy Survivors deck.
Next up, there’s the ever-useful Shadowspear. It does a lot of work for a very low mana investment.
Same is true for Lizard Blades, which also doubles up as a creature. Need an Equipment? You got it. No creatures? No worries, this Lizard will wear your other Equipment sand Auras just fine.
Speaking of Auras, the main ones I miss in this deck are the Umbras. The best one is probably Bear Umbra, but Snake Umbra and Hyena Umbra can also work well. They all offer various benefits, but they also grant totem armor, which gives your creature an one-time protection from destroy effects. Of course, if your opponents play many exile effects, these cards get a bit worse.
Additional Support

There are also many other types of cards that can support your overarching theme. First up, there’s Sram, Senior Edificer, which is a really cheap way to generate card advantage. The fact that it’s a creature is helpful, as it can also wear all those Auras and Equipment.
You’ll also want to find the perfect Equipment and/or Aura for every scenario you’ll find yourself in. You can do so by playing cards like Stoneforge Mystic, Open the Armory, and/or Fighter Class. Each of them offers different benefits, so choose the ones that best fit your play style.
A creature is modified if it’s enchanted, equipped or has +1/+1 counter(s) on it. Either of the first two options are fairly easy to enable in this deck, so you might want to add some synergies with this mechanic. The two best ones are most likely Chisiro, the Shattered Blade and Kodama of the West Tree, each for their own reasons.
Next up, Forge Anew offers three relevant abilities. It gets you back an Equipment, which plays well with Dogmeat’s milling ability. Furthermore, equipping at instant speed puts your opponents in a hard spot during blocks. Last but not least, your first ability each turn is free. All of this combines into a really potent card.
Nahiri, Heir of the Ancients offers you a lot of options, and if you like playing with planeswalkers, it’s a fine inclusion.
Finally, while not most on-theme card, Teferi’s Protection saves you in so many horrible spots, that it certainly deserves an inclusion, even though, it’s just a somewhat generic white Commander staple.
Mana Base
Another big improvement to the Scrappy Survivors deck can be made by improving its mana base. While the lands aren’t as bad as in many other precons, there are still too many that make only colorless mana or come into play tapped.

There’s no shortage of good options, for example you could start by adding Jetmir’s Garden and Fabled Passage. Furthermore, here are some powerful land cycles that you can use:
Fetch Lands
Bond Lands
What to Cut from Scrappy Survivors Precon?
Sometimes it can be harder to figure out what to remove from a deck than what to add. Genrally it’s a good idea to start with weaker cards, particularly if they don’t fit the theme. Here’s what I’d remove first:
- Agility Bobblehead
- Bighorner Rancher
- Brass Knuckles
- Junktown
- Perception Bobblehead
- Scavenger Grounds
- Single Combat
- Temple of the False God
- Vault 21: House Gambit
Sample Upgraded Scrappy Survivors Decklist
Here’s one option of how an upgraded Scrappy Survivors deck could look like. Remember that this is just a suggestion. You can always upgrade it in any way you like. If you want to keep in on-theme, you might want to pick up some cards from other decks, or just replace the weakest cards with Fallout basic lands.

Here you can see all the cards that appear in the Scrappy Survivors deck. First there are the new ones, followed by the reprints.
New Cards
In the following gallery there are 36 new cards. This makes for a total of 38 new cards in this precon, including the both commanders that you’ve already seen.

Reprints
All reprints also get new art and flavor text, as to fit in the Fallout world. Here are the 50 reprints that you’ll find in this deck. Combined with 38 new cards and 12 basic lands, that brings us up to a 100-card deck.
