Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Surprises With 4 Early Reveals

Jumpstart packs are a fun and exciting way to play Magic, albeit it’s been a bit overlooked recently. However, Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart boosters might change that. Especially, since some of the early reveals that just dropped look pretty amazing.

Anyhow, in this article we’ll explore all of those, as well as answer questions, such as:

  • What are Super Heroes Jumpstart packs?
  • How do you play Jumpstart?
  • Which cards can you open in these boosters?
  • Are Super Heroes Jumpstart boosters worth buying?

So, without further ado, let’s jump in and start right away.

What are Super Heroes Jumpstart Boosters?

Marvel Jumpstart Booster Contents Details

Jumpstart boosters are 20-card boosters (with 8 lands per booster). You shuffle two of them together, and that’s your deck. Your opponent does the same, and you’re ready for some fun, casual Magic.

All cards in the deck are set within the Marvel Universe, so you can expect various iconic characters, locations, and items from Marvel. Recently, most Jumpstart boosters included plenty of unique and fun commanders, which is another pull towards them.

Each pack uses one of 51 different themes. Most likely these themes will be something along the lines of: Fantastic Four, Villains, Avengers, Asgardians, and so on.

A whole Jumpstart booster box contains 24 Jumpstart packs, allowing for 12 different “decks”. But you can also mix-and-match them later for even more replayability.

On May 27th, four cards were revealed as a part of the Marvel comics promotion. There’s also one more card that was revealed earlier, and you can find all four below.

As you can see, the trend of iconic reprints with new art and unique commanders continues with this Jumpstart set too. (Building a deck around The Fantastic Four seems like a spectacular deckbuilding challenge.)

If the rest of the set looks similar, this will be a truly fun product.

Are Super Heroes Jumpstart Boosters Worth It?

We’ve only seen a small fraction of the card pool, so it’s impossible to tell for certain, but based on previous Jumpstart releases, we can make some pretty safe assumptions.

First and foremost, if you’re looking for some fun and casual MTG game play with your favorite Marvel Heroes, they’re definitely worth it.

There’s no deckbuilding, no brackets, and no discussion about who brought a too strong deck. You simply shuffle two pack together and play the game.

Usually, Jumpstart games will feel reminiscent of those first games you played as a new player. The decks have some synergies but they are far from optimized or overpowered. This way, the games won’t be ending on turns 4/5, but last longer, allowing both players to see and cast more cards, and make more decisions.

Sure, sometimes one deck will be stronger, than the other, but for the most part these will be fairly balanced, enabling fun game play.

Additional Reasons for Buying

So, that’s the major reason for wanting to get Super Heroes Jumpstart boosters. Here are a few more that might tip the scales when you’re deciding whether to go for a box:

  • You enjoy Marvel and want to collect a bunch of cards.
  • Most of the cards in these boosters are exciting to you.
  • You want to have a self-contained Marvel x MTG board game. (You’ll just need to put the cards from a single booster into specifically marked sleeves.)
  • Your friend who’s a Marvel fan showed interest in the game.

If you’ve already made your mind and decided to acquire some boosters, now might be a good time to lock-in that preorder price. (Just in case of potential price increases later.)

Reasons Why You Might Want to Avoid Them

On the other hand, there are certainly reasons why you might want to avoid this product, for example:

  • Marvel is just not your cup of tea.
  • You only want 1-4 specific cards from the set. (It’s a better idea to acquire them on a secondary marketplace, such as TCGPlayer.)
  • You want a chance to open alternate art cards, and the priciest cards in the set. (That’s something Collector boosters can provide.)

As far as the value goes, it’s obviously too early to tell, given we don’t know the cards yet.

Nevertheless, lately players have been kinda sleeping on Jumpstart packs, which resulted in some pricey cards with Avatar Jumpstart. For example, Toph, Earthbending Master is nearing fifty bucks and The Cabbage Merchant is around $30.

So, it’s not that unlikely to recoup some value from your Jumpstart packs. Even so, you’ll get the most out of those boosters, if you actually play with them.
