Aang and friends are coming to Magic the Gathering in November 2025. This will be a Standard set release, which means various boosters and intro decks. But what about Avatar Commander precons?
In this article, we’ll discuss everything we know about them so far, starting with the most common question players ask about this release:
Will There Be Avatar Commander Precons?
UPDATE: Recently, there has been additional information revealed, that makes it less likely that Avatar Commander decks are coming. There is a Avatar Commander’s Bundle, which might be a replacement for this product. Still, the official news will be revealed pretty soon — on August 12th, 2025. Where we’ll get a definitive answer and the article will be updated with that info.
Typically, this would be a no-brainer. Every Standard-legal set nowadays comes with at least a couple of Commander decks. That is until Marvel’s Spiderman, which is without precons, although it is playable in Standard.
But here’s the thing. There will be multiple Marvel sets released in the upcoming years. This means plenty of opportunities for characters from Spider-verse to be featured in a precon lineup.
That’s not the case with Avatar, which is only getting a single set for the time being. (If it ends up really popular, we might get Legend of Korra in the future.) This means that now is the ideal time to make Commander decks, which are one of the most popular MTG products.
It wouldn’t surprise anyone to see Avatar Commander precons flying off the shelves. Being so popular, it means an additional boost for Q4 earnings, which are extremely important for all companies, Hasbro being no exception.
Therefore, Avatar Commander decks are pretty much all but confirmed.
With that said, let’s make some further predictions about the decks.
Predictions
The safest bet is that there are at least four decks, one for each nation. Here are some options for how they could work within the color pie:
- Water Tribe (blue or blue-green)
- Earth Kingdom (green or green-red)
- Fire Nation (red or red-black)
- Air Nomads (white or white-blue)
These colors would fit the nations quite nicely.
Water Tribe‘s and Fire Nation‘s magic is perfectly represented by blue and red mana symbols. Plus, the flavor is also there. Firebending is more about raw power and emotion, while Water tribes value intellect, protection, and learning. When the Fire Nation attacks they’re only concerned about the end result — progressing their status — which is a very black thing to do. Water tribes, on the other hand, are more connected to the nature, making green a reasonable second color.
Air Nomads practice spiritual wind magic, in tight-knit communities, which all fits the white color. Given that their magic is defensive, it makes perfect sense for them to be white-blue. (Just think of various defensive Azorius decks.)
Finally, Earth Kingdom draws its power from stone and soil, which fits green. Red is a bit of a stretch here, but it makes everything click, once you consider the possibility that there are more than four Avatar Commander decks.
Fifth Deck?
There are a couple of possibilities for the fifth deck. One option would be a deck centered around a Spirit World. It could be a mono black or a black-white precon. This would complete the color balances with the previously presumed colors, which is a neat plus.
What about the second option? Imagine a five color deck centered around Aang’s avatar form. This could be a really powerful and exciting precon, as it could feature build, featuring Avatars that came before Aang (for example Roku, Kuruk, Kyoshi, and Yagchenn).
It will be exciting to see which direction Wizards decides to take, but they certainly have some some great choices to choose from.
Avatar Commander Decklists
For the full decklist, we’ll need to wait a while longer. Given that the release date for this set is November 21, we can probably expect face commanders to be revealed in mid-October.
Additionally, the decklists will probably be revealed early in November.
