Hey there, fellow drafters! Welcome to our Secrets of Strixhaven Draft Tier List. This article is meant as a companion to our Secrets of Strixhaven Draft Guide.
That one covers all the big picture stuff, but here you can find grades for each card you can open in SOS Play boosters — based on how good they are for draft.
UPDATE: (April 30th) After ten days of drafting this set, this article received a major update. All the grades have been checked again and adjusted to reflect what’s going on in the format. While there could still be some minor adjustments in the future, the grades should now be fairly accurate.
Before we get to the grades, here’s what they mean.
SOS Draft Tier List – Legend
- A: The best cards in the set, the game revolves around them, as they can win games on their own.
- B: Strong cards, reasons to draft their colors.
- C: Playable cards. Not very exciting, but you’ll happily pick them, when you’re already drafting their colors.
- D: Nothing special, easily replaceable. A few D+ cards are might end up in your deck as your 20th-23rd best cards.
- F: Unplayable, niche cards. Usually meant for Commander, Standard, etc.
All grades (except F) can feature a “+” or a “-” symbol. As expected, C+ is a better grade than C, which is better than C-.
Secrets of Strixhaven Draft Tier List
Without further ado, here are the grades for each card in Secrets of Strixhaven Play boosters.
*These cards are from the Mystical Archives Bonus Sheet. There’s one of these in every pack.
** These are Secrets of Strixhaven Special Guests, and extremely rare. Only 1 in 55 Play boosters contains a Special Guest.
Note: As usual, these grades work in a vacuum, and for the first few picks. As the draft progresses, you should slightly adjust them, depending on your previous picks. Let’s say you only have a single two drop and you’re already in Pack 2. That random two drop that’s just a D+, feels more like C-level card.

Ark of Hunger is much better than a C
You are correct. That’s one of the cards I completely missed on the first go. The article is now updated, and Ark of Hunger now gets an A.
I have won many a game with and also lost many a game to the spectacular skywhale. In my opinion it is definitely not a D card…
I have also been on both end of the cards. And it might be a bit better than a D, but in my experience it’s fairly replaceable. You could put Tackle Artist in a good Prismari deck and still win with it. Like the actual good cards in a Prismari deck are instants and sorceries that give you massive card advantage, then you kinda win with whatever. The biggest downside to the Skywhale is that it doesn’t have an etb, and is quite understated for four mana.
