Upcoming MTG Sets 2021
Forgotten Realms, DND themed Magic set released in July 2021, and now we have two more major sets coming out in 2021.
Innistrad: Midnight Hunt
- Release Date: September 17, 2021
- Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Spoilers
- Set Symbol:
The last set of the year will be the only return in 2021. Its code name was first just Innistrad Werewolves, but now we know its full name – Innistrad Midnight Hunt. So we’re going back to Innistrad and the focus will be on werewolves.
Innistrad: Crimson Vow
- Release Date: November 19, 2021
- Set Symbol:
But wait, that’s not all there’s a second Innistrad set, with the main focus shifting to vampires instead! It was first code-named Innistrad Vampires, but the full name was revealed to be Innistrad: Crimson Vow. This makes sense, as apparently there will the biggest Vampire wedding in the Innistrad’s history. Could Sorin Markov settle down? Who knows?
Upcoming MTG Sets 2022
Thanks to the announcement that happened on August 24th, we already know the four sets that are coming out in 2022:
- Kamigawa Neon Destiny
- Streets of New Capena
- Dominaria United
- The Brothers War
Kamigawa Neon Destiny
We’re finally returning to Kamigawa! But it won’t be quite the same, as we’re coming back to it around 2000 years later. However, that doesn’t mean that we won’t know anyone on the plane. For example, the current emperor of Kamigawa is someone we know. Naturally, there will be many callbacks to the original set.
Streets of New Capena
New Capena is a modern fantasy noir set. There are five families, each centered in three colors. Each family has its own mechanic, and different species appear in different families.
Angels build the city of Capena, but during our visit it’s already run by Demon crime families. The plane also has a special meaning to Elspeth.
The second return set in 2022 takes us to Dominaria, a popular old school Magic plane. In fact, it was the Magic’s plane at the beginning of the game. So it makes sense, that it is a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the game. It’ll talk about the history of Dominaria.
The Brothers War
So, two brothers are apparently fighting a war. Who? Well, no other than Urza and Mishra an insanely powerful characters from Magic’s past. The set will further explore the underrepresented tribes from the early era of MTG.
Various collaboration products were also announced, as part of the Universes Beyond. You can expect:
- Warhammer 40k (There will be 4 Commander decks.)
- Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth (Full booster set, Modern legal and coming to Arena. Four Commander decks as well, and Secret Lairs too.)
- Fortnite Secret Lair
- Street Fighter Secret Lair
In 2022, we’re also getting at least two big supplemental sets. One is the fourth Un-set. That’s a weird joke set with Silver border cards. It’s called Unfinity. The set will contain shock lands with artwork set in space.
Another one is Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate. Similar draft format as the original Commander Legends. You can expect new multiplayer mechanics.
That’s all upcoming MTG sets that we know about so far. Once we get more information, you’ll be able to find it right here. If you don’t want to miss it, make sure to give us a follow on Facebook or Instagram.
Until next time, have fun and may your favorite trope get its own Magic set soon.
