Are you just starting out with One Piece cards and trying to figure which product to get first? That’s great, because in this article you’ll find the answers you seek. So keep on reading, in find out what you need to start playing One Piece TCG.
We’re going to keep in short and sweet, so let’s get right to it.
The first item, and most certainly best for One Piece TCG beginner, are the Starter decks. There are various versions of them, but the latest one is Uta Starter deck (released on February 2nd, 2024), which you can see below.
What are Starter decks? These are complete ready-to-play 50-card decks. Also, there’s a leader card and 10 DON!! cards. You simply open one of those decks, and you’re ready to start playing.
Are this the most competitive decks? Not really, although they do contain some strong cards, there’s also quite a lot of filler cards. But are they fun, and enable some great casual games? You bet!
If you get two different Starter decks, you and your friend can start playing right away. Most of these decks are fairly balanced against one another, so you don’t have to worry about your opponent having too strong of a deck.
Playing with Starter decks is a great way to figure out how the game works, as basic rules are also included. All things considered, Starter decks are the best product to buy for a beginner One Piece player.
If you’re familiar with other trading card games, you already know just how important card sleeves are. However, if you’re a complete beginner, here’s why you should get yourself some quality sleeves:
- They protect your cards from damage that comes from shuffling and playing. Some cards can be quite valuable, but that value goes down the drain if the card is damaged.
- Shuffling becomes much easier and pleasant, when all your cards are sleeved.
For these two reasons alone, it’s worth getting your One Piece cards into some sleeves.
You want the regular sleeve size. That’s the one that works for Magic the Gathering and Pokémon cards. The ones you saw above come from Dragon Shield and are one of the best sleeves on the market. Very durable, and easy to shuffle.
Of course, you could also find and buy one of the many One Piece themed sleeves.
Starter decks are the product you should get first. Then, you can upgrade it by purchasing singles. However, you might want to just build your collection up with random cards. You can do so by buying booster boxes.
In each of those boxes, you’ll find 24 boosters with 12 cards each. If you can afford it, going for a whole box is usually better than buying loose boosters. The latter could’ve been tampered with, but a sealed box should be much safer.
The one pictured above is from the set Awakening of the New Era, which is the latest set. Typically, it’s a good idea to get a new set, although that can change if you’re looking for cards from some other edition.
So, now you know which products are best to buy for a One Piece TCG beginner. Hopefully, you’ll have a lot of fun with whichever product you decide to purchase.
