What are the Starter decks? These are complete ready-to-play 50-card decks. Also, there’s a leader card and 10 DON!! cards. You simply open one of those decks, and you can start playing right away.
As of writing of this article, over 13 different Starter decks have been released, each with their own pros and cons. One of the more popular ones is certainly The Three Brothers Starter deck, which was released on April 17th, 2024.
Contrary to most other decks, this one comes with two alternate leaders, which you can swap in with your main one. This allows for more variety, and keeps the deck interesting for longer. While it is a bit more expensive than the other Starter decks, it does contain more powerful cards. Thus, you could upgrade it into a more competitive deck.
What’s the downside of this deck? Well, it’s somewhat complicated, and the play patterns aren’t the most obvious. If you’ve played other trading card games before, you should be good to go. If not, you should probably pick up something simpler.
Good One Piece Starter Decks for Beginners
There are many fine decks to choose, but to keep things simple, here are the two best options, we recommend:

2 Decks for 2 Players
Of course, in order to play, you also need an opponent with a deck. If you don’t have a game store where they regularly play One Piece, that can be a bit of a problem.
Perhaps you can interest a friend in playing? In that case, you’ll probably want to pick up two different Starter decks right away. Most of these decks are fairly balanced against one another, so you don’t have to worry about you or the opponent using an overly powerful deck.
Plus, you can keep the decks as they are, and use those as a self-contained board game. No need to purchase additional cards or update the decks, if you don’t want to.
Anyway, playing with the Starter decks is a great way to figure out how the game works, as basic rules are also included. All things considered, Starter decks are the best product to buy for a beginner One Piece player.
Sleeves
If you’re familiar with other trading card games, you already know just how important card sleeves are. However, if you’re a complete beginner, here’s why you should get yourself some quality sleeves:
- They protect your cards from damage caused by shuffling and playing. Some cards can be quite valuable, but that value goes down the drain if the card is damaged.
- Shuffling experience significantly improves. It’ much easier and more pleasant to shuffle your deck when all your cards are sleeved.
For these two reasons alone, it’s worth acquiring sleeves for you new One Piece cards.
You want the regular sleeve size. That’s the one that works for Magic the Gathering and Pokémon cards. The ones you saw above come from Dragon Shield and are one of the best sleeves on the market. Very durable, and easy to shuffle. They’ll easily last for multiple years even with regular use.
Of course, you could also find and buy one of the many One Piece themed sleeves. While they might be a tad bit less durable, they will be on-theme.
Booster Boxes
Starter decks are the product you should get first. Then, you can upgrade it by purchasing singles on sites like TCGPlayer.
However, sometimes you don’t know which card you want. You might prefer to build your collection with random cards. You can do so by buying booster boxes.
In most of these boxes, you’ll find 24 boosters with 12 cards each. If you can afford it, going for a whole box is usually better than buying loose boosters. The latter could have been tampered with, but a sealed box is a much safer choice.
The one pictured above is from the set 500 Years in the Future, which was released on June 28th, 2024 and is the newest set. Typically, it’s a good idea to go for the newest one, unless you’re looking for cards included in another edition.
