Super Heroes Classic Comic Cards Bring Kirby to MTG!

The latest Marvel set has a lot of Magic players and collectors excited, as there’s a lot of good stuff coming with this set. One particularly neat thing are the Super Heroes Classic Comic cards.

If you’re a fan of those OG comics, you’re going to love these, especially since the artists are some of the absolute legends from the early days.

Below you’ll find just about everything there is to know about them, including:

So, let’s suit up and jump right in!

What are the Super Heroes Classic Comic Cards?

Classic Comic cards are alternate art cards of various legendary creatures from the main Marvel Super Heroes set. Instead of using the regular Magic artwork, the feature covers from classic comics, hence the name.

For example, here are two different versions of Captain America. You can compare the alternate version (on your left!) with its regular counterpart.

That’s right, artworks of legends such as Jack Kirby and John Romita Sr. will now be featured on actual Magic cards.

Wizards of the Coast got quite creative with those, utilizing all parts of the comic covers to display the cards’ text. For example, take a look at Captain America’s #193 cover from almost 60 years ago (1968).

You can see how all text rectangles were used to exhibit creature types, rules text, and even mana cost of the card. This way the card really pops out, while still being true to the original cover and making the information perfectly readable.

Classic Comic Cards List

So far, we know about four Classic Comic cards. Since there’s a double-sided Bruce/Hulk among them, there are actually five artworks.

Furthermore, there was a Shang Chi card leaked on June 2nd.

While we currently don’t know how many Super Heroes Classic Comic cards there will be, based on the collector numbers, there will be at least eight, with something between 15-20 being a more likely number. (Given that the last card at 394 is Doctor Doom, a mono black card.)

Where to Get Super Heroes Classic Comic Cards?

You can open these cards only in Super Heroes Collector boosters. (Or you could acquire them on the secondary market, such as TCG Player.)

Collector Boosters

In case, you’re unfamiliar, these are the premium boosters, each with 5 guaranteed rares. All cards are in foil or use alternate arts, sometimes even both. Classic Comic cards are one of those, as they are always foil.

Based on the Spider-Man set, there’s a 2.5% chance of Collector booster containing one of Classic Comic card. However, those odds might be different here, as there’s a lot of differences between the two sets.

For the exact odds you’ll need to wait a while longer. Once they’re available, we’ll update the article to aknowledge that.

Alternate Option: Gift Bundle

The Gift Bundle is another product that contains Collector booster, so you could potentially open a Super Heroes Classic Comic card in it.
