Eldrazi Incursion Precon: Decklist & Spoilers

Eldrazi are one of the most popular creature types in Magic, and they’re returning with Modern Horizons 3. What’s even better, they’re going to be the main theme for one of the four Commander precons, called Eldrazi Incursion.

In this article, you’ll be able to find just about everything there is to know about this precon. We’ll explore all currently revealed information, including main commander, new cards, and more. There will be regular updates in the following weeks, as more details get revealed.

With that said, let’s see what the deck is trying to do.

Eldrazi With All Six Colors

Yes, you’ve read this right. This deck cares not only about Eldrazi, but it’s also the first deck that specifically features six colors. That’s the regular five, plus the “secret sixth” colorless.

Eldrazi Incursion Modern Horizons 3 Commander Dekcs

Okay, so it’s not actually that different from a regular five color deck, (both can use the same cards) but it’s still fun to see that colorless symbol featured on the box.

Anyway, if you’re a fan of Eldrazi, you’re going to enjoy this deck. You’ll be casting big weird creatures with extremely powerful effects. These can be quite expensive, so it’s safe to assume there will be lots of ramp present in the deck too.

Your main commander will get you even more millage out of your Eldrazi cards. Speaking of which, let’s see exactly what it does.

Ulalek, Fused Atrocity

Ulalek, Fused Atrocity

Atrocity is quite an apt name for a card with such a weird mana cost. You can cast Ulalek for five colorless mana, but each one of those can be replaced by a specific colored mana. So, what do you get for your five mana investment? Just a 2/5? Its text box better be good.

Thankfully, that’s certainly the case. Its ability triggers whenever you cast an Eldrazi spell. At that point, you can pay two colorless mana to copy all spells, activated and triggered abilities you control.

Now this can be quite a handful to truly understand at first read. There’s certainly a lot happening here.

How Exactly Does Ulalek Work?

The most straightforward way to use Ulalek is to cast an Eldazi spell with a cast trigger (like Artisan of Kozilek), You pay two colorless mana, end you end up with two creatures and two cast triggers.

However, there’s much more that you can do. For example, you can respond to Ulalek’s trigger, by casting instants and spells with flash, or by activating abilities. This way you’ll also copy all of these effects.

If you can cast an Eldrazi spell at an instant speed, that allows you another fancy play pattern. You cast a creature or a spell, and hold priority. You then respond to your own spell by casting an instant-speed Eldrazi. Ulalek triggers, you pay two colorless mana and you get to copy both spells you’ve cast this turn.

Don’t forget that Shapshifter spells also count as Eldrazi, so something like Crib Swap can be very useful.

Ulalek doesn’t work that well with legendaries, as you can only keep one one of them. However, you still get their cast triggers, as well as enter-the-battlefield effects. All things considered, Ulalek seems like an extremely strong commander, that will create some insanely powerful turns.

Besides these new cards, some reprints were also leaked. Thus, you can expect the following cards to appear in Eldrazi Incursion precon:

Eldrazi Incursion Upgrade Ideas

Given, that the full decklist hasn’t been revealed yet, it’s a bit early for a full Eldrazi Incursion Upgrade Guide. However, we can make some predictions about which cards would be most amazing in this deck, based on the face commander.

So, below you’ll find three cards that would be really cool and fun inclusions. For each one we’ll also talk about how likely it is that the card will actually appear in the deck. If you really like a specific one, you might even order it ahead of schedule, just in case it isn’t reprinted and it price spikes afterwards.

Cadric, Soul Kindler

Cadric, Soul Kindler Eldrazi Incursion Decklist Upgrade Ideas

I’s unlikely that Cadric will be reprinted in the deck, simply due to the fact that it’s not an Eldrazi, and not connected to them. So, why would it be good in this deck?

One thing I disliked about Ulalek is that it doesn’t give you full value when you’re casting legendary Eldrazi. Sure, they are still pretty good, but if you are paying that additional two colorless mana, you’d like to get everything you’re entitled to.

By ignoring the legendary rule, you can keep two copies of Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger in play. Of course, if you really like that theme, you could also use Mirror Box and Mirror Gallery.

However, Cadric gives you another benefit. Paying an additional mana to get a hasty Eldrazi can be extremely good, especially if that legend also comes with the anihilator keyword.

Echoes of Eternity

Echoes of Eternity Modern Horizons 3 Leaks

Here’s another card, which is extremely unlikely to see a reprint here. Why? Because it wasn’t actually printed yet. It will appear in Modern Horizons 3 main set. As we mentioned at the beginning, Eldrazi are also a theme regular set.

I always like to include cards that work similarly to my commander. This way, even if I can’t use m commander, I can still deploy my main strategy. Echoes of Eternity fills that role nicely, by duplicating both your colorless triggers, as well as colorless spells.

Furthermore, it also works well with Ulalek in play. You’re getting a ton of triggers at that point, and it’s easy for things to get out of hand.

Zhulodok, Void Gorger

Zhulodok, Void Gorger Eldrazi Incursion Precon Decklist

This card could potentially see a reprint, either here or in the main set. It is an Eldrazi, after all. However, if it isn’t, the demand for it will likely skyrocket. It’s just so strong and fun paired with Ulalek.

Imagine you have both your commander and Zhulodok in play. You cast an expensive Eldrazi spell, and both of these creatures trigger. Now you can order their abilities in any order you want.

You probably want to do it so you get four cascade triggers, plus two copies of whichever spell you’ve cast first. If you cascade into more Eldrazi spells, Ulalek will trigger again, giving you a chance for even more copying.

While it’s going to be somewhat hard to set up a turn like this, it’s going to feel that much better when it does finally happen.

So, that’s all we know about the Eldrazi Incursion precon so far. Make sure to check back soon, when more cards will be revealed. Oh, and we almost forgot to mention one last thing. There’s a premium version of this deck also.

Eldrazi Incursion Precon Collectors Edition

What’s so special about the Collector’s Edition? All 100-cards come with a foil treatment! And not just the regular foiling. Instead, Wizards are using something called Ripple foil. These cards will gleam in a pattern like ripples in a pool of water.

Plus the main commanders come in the borderless profile treatment, which you saw above, on the Ulalek’s image.

Finally, if you want to find out more about the other three precons, check our Modern Horizons 3 Commander Precons article. There you’ll discover everything we know so far about those decks.

Until next time, have fun, and may Eldrazi Incursion contain all the reprints you’ve been hoping for.
