If you like the energy mechanic, you’re going to enjoy the new Temur Commander deck from Aetherdrift. Below you’ll find everything there is to know about Living Energy precon. That includes spoilers, as well as the full decklist, since everything was revealed on January 23rd.
Use Energy to Charge Up Artifact Creatures
Back in 2016, when the energy mechanic first appeared in Kaladesh, it was present in all five colors. However, the majority of energy cards were in blue, red, and green. There were two Jeskai energy Commander decks released in 2024 (Science! and Creative Energy), so it’s nice to see the energy theme return to its original colors.
As with all energy decks, this one will try and gather a lot of energy counters in the early stages of the game. This time by playing various artifact spells or Artificiers. The question is: what will it spend those counters on?
You’ll be able to either make copies of your permanents, which is pretty cool. Not just creatures, but any permanents. Perhaps you want to double a Doubling Season? But given that Aetherdrift is all about racing, you could also turn that energy into large vehicles.
Plus, you could do a whole lot of other stuff with your energy counters, as you can see from the decklist below.

For the players who like to start upgrading their decks right away, I’ve selected three cards that would fit this deck quite nicely. You can find the full Living Energy Upgrade Guide here.
Izzet Generatorium
First up, here’s a neat uncommon that’s missing from the Living Energy precon. It’s artifact, so it works with the artifact synergies, plus it nets you an additional energy whenever you gain those counters.
Plus, it shouldn’t be too hard to activate it for a steady stream of card advantage. Given that you’re paying just a couple of mana, Generatorium seems like a great deal.
Aether Refinery
What’s better than getting +1 energy? Doubling the amount of energy you’re getting, of course. Six mana might be a steep cost, but still playable in a more casual setting. So, how good this card will end up, depends on your play group, but it is certainly a fun one. (Can you imagine imagine copying it with Saheeli?)
The second ability is also nice, as it allows you to both get and spend energy. A vanilla Aetherborn isn’t too spectacular, but it’s still fine to have the option.
Clever Impersonator
Finally, I always like to recommend some card that mimic your commander’s effect. That way, you add some redundancy to your strategy.
In this case, one option you have is Clever Impersonator. When you won’t be able to use Saheeli’s ability for whatever reason, you’ll still be able to copy something with Impersonator.
