Did you notice the weird-looking cards from Outlaws of Thunder Junction that kinda look like newspaper articles? Do you want to know more about them? If so, you’ve come to the right place, as today we’re going to talk about these so-called Breaking News cards.
First, we’re going to explain what these cards are, and then we’ll show you all 65 of them. Afterward, there’s a lot of additional information about the Breaking News cards, including the odds of opening them, their distribution, and more.
As you can see, there’s a bunch of exciting stuff to talk about, so let’s get right to it.
What are Breaking News Cards?
Occasionally, a Magic set gets so-called bonus sheet. That’s a group of cards, typically reprints within a specific theme. They feature a special artwork and frame. While these are printed in a specific set, they don’t technically count as a part of that set for stuff like format legality. Nevertheless, they are always a welcome addition, since they add some value to the packs by replacing a common.
Example of the previous bonus sheets include Enchanting Tales (enchantments) from Wilds of Eldraine and Multiverse Legends (legendary creatures) from March of the Machines.
So, the Breaking News is the bonus sheet for Outlaws of Thunder Junction. This time around, they aren’t centered around a specific card type. There are all sorts of card types included, apart from creatures.
The cards are styled to look like The Prosperity Post, the newspaper from Thunder Junction. They depict various crimes happening on this Wild West plane. But hey, let’s take a look at them, and you’ll see exactly what we mean by that.

Textured Foils Special Versions
But wait, there’s more! All the Breaking News cards also come with a special, so-called textured foil treatment. These feature the same art, but it now extends to all borders, and it’s even present in the text box.

Where to Get Breaking News Cards?
Now you’ve seen how these card look like, but where can you get them? What are your odds of opening them?
Well, we have some good news for you. Each Outlaws of Thunder Junction Play booster contains a guaranteed Breaking News card.
So, each Play booster has a special slot, in which you’ll always open a regular version of a Breaking News card. Thus, you can expect 36 of them per whole booster box.
But what if you want a textured foil one? Well, those only appear in the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Collector boosters.

These boosters are more expensive, but can contain multiple rares, plus all the cards are foil or use alternate art. (For more information, check our MTG Booster Guide.) As far as the Breaking News cards go, there are at least three per Collector booster. That gives you 36 per Collector booster box.
The exact odds for the Textured foils aren’t known yet, but once they will be, we’ll update this article with that info.
